The City is planning for long-term economic opportunities and employment growth in Central Sydney as part of the development of a comprehensive and consistent City Plan. The new City Plan, to be completed for public exhibition late 2009, will strengthen the role of Central Sydney as a Global City by accommodating sustainable economic and employment growth and allowing for vibrant and active villages.

Reclaiming the Western Edge

Sydney’s global and national economic success will be reinforced by extending the City Centre west to Barangaroo. Improved public transport, walking and cycling connections will position Sydney and Australia for the next wave of global economic development.

  • Targets:

    By 2030 the City

    • will host at least 138,000 dwellings, with 48,000 additional dwellings
      in the City for increased diversity of household types
    • will contain at least 465,000 jobs including 97,000 additional jobs
    • will have capacity to meet up to 100 percent of electricity demand by local electricity generation
