Affordable Housing Project

The City of Sydney has commenced planning an affordable housing project on its own land. The project will demonstrate how people can live affordably in the City with access to high quality cultural and community services.

  • Action is needed to:

    • Ensure housing for low and middle income essential workers such as nurses, teachers, police and emergency services is available
    • Provide a greater supply of housing for a wide range of social groups, lifestyles and households
    • Provide public housing for very low income households and special needs groups
    • Address homelessness amongst groups at risk
    • Ensure population diversity for cultural vitality and liveability which strengthens economic opportunities
  • 2030 goals:

    • Add to the supply of housing in the private market
    • Ensure development provides a diversity of housing types for a range of lifestyles and households
    • Ensure a substantial amount of housing in private development is aimed at the lower end of the market
    • Facilitate and promote growth in the social housing sector to provide affordable housing opportunities for those with very low incomes
    • Facilitate and promote growth in the not–for–profit housing sector to provide affordable housing opportunities
