Protecting the Heart will be an integrated plan for managing transport into, around and within the City Centre and will include an efficient public transport loop with light rail.

Village to Village Shuttle

The Redfern to Broadway shuttle bus enables residents of Redfern, Waterloo and Glebe to access local amenities such as Redfern bank, RPA hospital, Glebe library and the Broadway shopping centre.

Carsharing

Car sharing provides a low-cost, reliable and convenient alternative to car ownership. Supporting car share schemes is one way the City is fulfilling its 2030 sustainable transport objectives.

    3. 3.3 Reduce the impact of transport on public space in the City Centre and Activity Hubs

    4. 3.4 Manage regional roads to support increased public transport use and reduce car traffic in City streets

  • Targets:

    By 2030 there will be:

    • 80 per cent of City workers commuting on public transport—80 per cent of work trips by City residents in non private vehicles
    • 10 per cent of trips made in the City by walking and cycling—50 per cent of trips made by walking
    • Every resident within a 10 minute (800m) walk to a main street
    • Every resident within a 3 minute (260m) walk of a continuous green link
