Project Idea
Linked City Squares for Public Life
Eminent Danish architect Jan Gehl, suggests that George Street should be a celebrated North-South boulevard. George Street would link three public squares - a harbour-side gateway at Circular Quay, a new civic Town Hall Square and a lively Central Station Precinct.

Action is needed to:
- Protect the City Centre’s role as an iconic location
- Open the City Centre, and connect it to the harbour
- Reclaim the City Centre for public life
- Increase vitality on the street
- Create more and better spaces for people to enjoy the City
- Preserve the City’s fine detail and human scale architecture and laneways
- Create a more diverse and lively night culture
