History Festivals

Chris Keating leads a walking tour through Surry Hills in 2008.

The City of Sydney participates in a number of history celebrations and festivals throughout the year.

Information about events and programs can be found below.

History Week 2012

History Week is our state's annual festival of history, celebrated annually in the first week of September.

In 2012, the theme for History Week is THREADS. Long before the fashionistas of today decided ‘the look’, dress was an important element of human expression. From status to style, culture to professional identity, clothes have defined us. History Week 2012 will explore the history of threads and unpick the meaning behind the wardrobes of the past.

Heritage Festival 2012

The National Trust Heritage Festival is held for two weeks every year in April, and is celebrated at hundreds of fantastic events across metropolitan and regional NSW.

Events will include a wide range of community activities including discovery tours, art exhibitions, walks, talks, awards presentations, concerts, open days, photographic and historical displays and community fairs. Check out What's On! for more detail about events hosted by the City of Sydney.
