Late Night Transport

To ensure that you return home safely after a night out in Sydney, there are a range of late night transport options available.

Secure Taxi Ranks

Secure Taxi Ranks generally operate late on Friday and Saturday nights and are staffed by security guards to ensure your safety when getting a taxi home.

There are 10 Secure Taxi Ranks in the City of Sydney in the following locations:

City Centre

  • Alfred Street, Circular Quay close to the Station
  • George Street, Sydney – outside the Four Seasons Hotel (on George between Essex and Alfred Street)
  • Phillip Street, Sydney – at Chifley Plaza (on Phillip Street between Bent and Hunter Streets) – note Friday night only
  • Lime Street, King Street Wharf, Sydney (at the northern end of Lime Street)
  • Park Street, Sydney (between Pitt Street and Castlereagh Street)
  • George Street, Sydney - at World Square (on George Street between Liverpool and Goulburn Streets on the eastern side)
  • Liverpool Street, Sydney – at World Square (on Liverpool Street between George and Pitt Streets on the southern side)

Surry Hills

  • Oxford Street, Darlinghurst (between Riley and Pelican Street on the southern or city bound side)

Kings Cross

  • Darlinghurst Road (near intersection with Macleay Street)
  • Bayswater Road, Kings Cross (between Darlinghurst Road and Pennys Lane)

Buses

Sydney buses run throughout the night in several locations across the City of Sydney. Routes include:

  • 188 – City to Avalon via Balgowlah and Warringah Mall
  • 373 – City to Coogee via Randwick Junction
  • 380 – City to North Bondi via Bondi Junction and Bondi Beach
  • 394 – City to Little Bay via Anzac Parade
  • 423 – City to Kingsgrove via Newtown, Marrickville and Earlwood

Trains / Night Ride Bus Services

In Sydney, trains usually operate until midnight and start again around 4.30am. After midnight, CityRail trains are replaced by NightRide bus services. Night Ride bus services are able to radio ahead to taxi services to meet you at your destination.

Night Ride bus services depart from George Street, Town Hall Station near the corner of Bathurst Street. Routes include:

  • N10 – City to Sutherland / Sutherland to City
  • N11 – City to Cronulla / Cronulla to City
  • N30 – City to Macarthur / Macarthur to City
  • N40 – City to East Hills / East Hills to City
  • N50 – City to Liverpool / Liverpool to City
  • N60 – City to Fairfield / Fairfield to City
  • N70 – City to Penrith / Penrith to City
  • N80 – City to Hornsby (via Strathfield) / Hornsby to City (via Strathfield)
  • N90 Town Hall to Hornsby (via Chatswood) / Hornsby to Town Hall (via Chatswood)
  • N100 Railway Square to Bondi Junction / Bondi Junction to Railway Square
