2007/2008 Film and Photography Fees and Charges

Reduction or Waiver of Filming Fees

The City of Sydney has established a set of criteria for reduction or waiver of fees for filming and still photography in the City. You must submit any requests for a reduction or waiver of fees with your relevant filming application.

To be eligible for a reduction or waiver of fees, you must demonstrate that one or more of the following conditions are met:

  • The production's primary purpose is to highlight the City of Sydney as a tourist destination.
  • The production is for a charitable, educational, non-commercial artistic purpose or for a community organisation that provides a service to the community, or a forum to encourage improvements for the community.
  • The production is being shot in a “news crew” style (i.e., handheld camera or camera on a tripod, no more than 6 to 10 production crew) and will cause no disruption to public access or services.

You must also agree that you will acknowledge the City of Sydney’s assistance in the production credits and in other promotional material for the production.

Security bonds

You should be aware that the City of Sydney reserves the right to charge a refundable security bond relating to filming and still photography activities conducted within the local government area. The amount of the security bond is assessed case by case. The refund of the security bond is subject to the terms and conditions included in the relevant permit that is issued to you.

Payment methods

With permits that attract fees and charges a tax invoice is issued at the same time with the permit.  Full Payment must be must be made prior to filming commencement.

Payment options include:

  • Cheque (must be include a copy of the tax invoice) and can either be posted or paid in person at any one of Council’s One Stop Shops
  • Credit card (we accept Visa, Bankcard, Mastercard and American Express). Credit card payment details are available on the Tax Invoice issued with the Filming Permit
  • Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). Council’s bank details are on the Tax Invoice issued with the Filming Permit.
