Road Closures
Hickson Road and George Street, The Rocks - Friday and Saturday Night Road Closures
A section of Hickson Road and George Street will be closed between 10 pm and 3 am each Friday and Saturday night commencing Friday 1 August 2008 to help reduce anti-social behaviour by car hoons.
A four-month trial of these traffic arrangements commenced in October 2007. An evaluation of this trial found the traffic changes were effective and strongly supported by the local community. The City of Sydney and NSW State Government have agreed to reintroduce these arrangements for a further one-year trial.
The City of Sydney and NSW Government are jointly funding this initiative, which has the support of the Roads and Traffic Authority, NSW Police, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, State Transit Authority and The Rocks Chamber of Commerce.
The proposal will allow authorised traffic including residents, legitimate visitors and taxis to drive north along Hickson Road past Pottinger Street on Friday and Saturday nights. A map is available for download.
At the same time all northbound motorists on George Street will be diverted onto Alfred Street near Circular Quay. Motorists can exit the restricted area via either route.
The Rocks Police Local Area Command will assist with the operation of the road closures as part of their regular policing operations. The NSW Police Force will continue to proactively police crime and anti-social behaviour in The Rocks.

Street Events and Parades
The City approves various Street Events and Parades that require full or partial road closures to allow the safe conduct of the specific event or parade.
The City will only consider proposed Street Events or Parades that occur on weekends to minimise the impact on the day to day business operations and traffic congestion in central Sydney.
