Customs House is one of the City of Sydney’s finest heritage buildings and has recently been transformed into a dynamic new cultural destination where Sydneysiders can relax, meet, access information, eat and drink, visit exhibitions and be inspired. The Barnet Long Room is located on Level 1 offers exclusive function and performance space within Customs House.
Centrally positioned in the heart of Circular Quay, Customs House is one of Sydney’s historic landmark buildings and has featured in the working and cultural life of the city since it was constructed in 1845.
The refurbished Customs House is the ‘lounge room’ for the city, a revitalised venue for events and exhibitions as well as the new home for the flagship City of Sydney Library. The grand entrance atrium of Customs House features a glass-covered walkway over a giant 4m x 9m model of the Sydney Local Government Area and a stunning spiral staircase leads guests to the Barnet Long Room.

Barnet Long Room
Located on Level 1 the Barnet Long Room offers exclusive function and performance space and boasts a grand colonial style with 5 metre high ceilings, large windows and strong acoustics. The venue offers direct access to the magnificent colonial balcony with sweeping views of Customs House Square and also features a large adjoining pre-function lounge, that is ideal for pre-dinner drinks or informal breakouts.
This exclusive, modern, well-equipped venue accommodates 120 guests for dinner, 96 classroom style, 160 theatre style or up to 400 cocktail style.
Included in the venue hire of the Barnet Long Room, the following is provided:

Audio Visual
Basic in-house sound and lighting, a data projector, screen, lectern and microphone is included in the full day hire of the Barnet Long Room. Please contact Venue Management prior to your event should you require technical assistance, our Conditions of Hire offer a guide regarding additional charges. Technical labour is not included within the venue hire.
Catering
Customs House is pleased to introduce Restaurant Associates, as our exclusive caterer for the Barnet Long Room on the 1st floor. This follows on from a successful history of catering excellence and professional service standards delivered at Sydney Town Hall.
Conditions
To confirm a booking, a 25% deposit will be required within 14 days of contract issue. In addition, please read carefully a copy of the Conditions of Hire before confirming your event. Full prepayment of events is strictly required three weeks prior to the commencement of your event.
Occupational Health and Safety Policy
All hirers and agents, employees and contractors must comply with the Council's OH&S policy while on the council premises. You can download the policy as a PDF document.
