Childrens Community Development Initiatives

Ultimo Children's Program

The City of Sydney undertakes a number of special initiatives in conjunction with the community and other levels of government, in response to identified community need relating to children.

Inner City Mobile Playbus

Operating in various parks in the City of Sydney, the Inner City Mobile Playbus is a free outreach service for children aged 0 to 5 years and their families.

Conducted by Save the Children Australia, the service is supported through a Community Advisory Committee comprising a number of local community organisations including the City of Sydney.

The Inner City Mobile Playbus is not a care service and all children must be accompanied by their parents or carers.

Playgroups in the Park

Playgroups in the Park occurs two to three times a year at Redfern Park or Waterloo Green.

The aim is to provide a range of activities and entertainment for children aged 0 - 5 years as well as providing community information for families. Stalls are available for groups and organisations who wish to provide information and promote their services to the community.

The event is a joint initiative by local community organisations and groups and the City of Sydney. Playgroups in the Park is promoted through local early childhood centres, preschools and schools and usually attracts approximately 300 participants.
