History Publication Sponsorship Program
The History Publication Sponsorship Program assists with the costs of producing publications that are considered relevant to the ongoing research into and recording of the history of the City of Sydney.
This Program will respond on an ad hoc basis to requests from publishers and historians. Applications will be accepted for funding requests up to $15,000.
All applicants must have spoken with the City Historian before submission of an application to the Program. Applications can then be made in writing to the Chief Executive Officer.
Examples of books supported under the History Publication Sponsorship Program include:

Grace Karskens, The Colony: a history of early Sydney, Allen & Unwin, Sydney 2009.
Extensive illustrative material and colour plates were made possible by the City’s support.

Emily Booker, James de Vries and Deborah Cameron (eds.), ForestLodgePublic School: 125 years, 2008.
The City’s grant enabled the school’s committee to publish a high-quality full-colour hardback publication. This innovative commemorative history for children won the prize for the Best Designed Primary Education Book at the 2009 Australian Publishers Association Book Design Awards, and also received a commendation for the Best Designed Children’s non-fiction book.

Leone Huntsman, ‘For the Little Ones, the Best’, SDN Children’s Services 1905-2005.
SDN Children’s Services were able to self-publish this short, illustrated commemorative history with the help of the City’s grant.

Deborah Beck, Hope in Hell, a history of Darlinghurst Gaol/National Arts School, Allen & Unwin, Sydney 2005.
The City’s support prompted a major publisher to produce a high quality book.

Jan Roberts: The Astor, Ruskin Rowe Press, 2003.
The City's grant permitted a higher level of photographic reproduction.
The Green Square History Project, 2003. A short print run publication of a range of student work on this area. This was a basic production of useful material much needed by heritage practitioners.
