Homelessness Brokerage Program
The City of Sydney has been providing funding support towards the operation of a Homelessness Brokerage Program since 1997. The Brokerage Program is provided by the YWCA NSW under contract to the City of Sydney and with funding also provided by Housing NSW. It assists clients from across metropolitan Sydney, with a focus on the central Sydney area.
The Brokerage Program targets adults and families with low to moderate needs who require minimal assistance to resolve their incidence of crisis. The focus of Brokerage is to provide short term assistance to prevent people from falling into homelessness or to refer them out of homelessness before their experience of homelessness becomes entrenched. Brokerage assists people to remain in, or to secure, long term accommodation by providing some of the following services: short term accommodation with support; assistance with rental or other arrears; referrals to housing and other forms of secure housing; transport and storage assistance; and other forms of support to prevent people from becoming entrenched in crisis.
The hours of operation are 9am to 10 pm 7 days a week.
Referrals are made to the Homeless Brokerage Program by contacting the Homeless Persons Information Centre on 1800 234 566.
