Community Transport

There are 2 Community Transport providers in the City of Sydney offering accessible and affordable transport for people who have difficulty using public transport.

City of Sydney Community Transport Service

This service is wholly operated by Council and supports many of the City’s community services and programs. Transport is provided for:

Over 55s Centres

Transport to and from centres, events and activities. You must be a member of one of Council’s Over 55s Centres to use this service. Membership is open to seniors, people with a disability and carers who are residents of the City of Sydney. Each Over 55s Centre also operates additional free bus services for social outings in the City of Sydney. For more information please contact your nearest Over 55s Centre.

Please note that only limited assistance is available on our buses – our drivers must remain with their vehicles at all times. For example, we cannot carry your bags or escort you into your home.

Youth Services

Outings and excursions run by the City’s Child Care Centres, Youth Services and School Holiday Program.

South Sydney Community Transport

Shopping Bus Services

As of the 4 January 2010 South Sydney Community Transport (SSCT) will be taking over the City of Sydney Council’s shopping services in a newly designed shopping schedule.

Website: www.ssct.org.au

Funds from the NSW Home and Community Care program enable this non-profit community organisation to provide assisted transport to frail older people, people with disabilities and their carers. The City also provides funding for South Sydney Community Transport to operate a Village to Village community transport service for all local residents.

Shopping bus

A weekly Shopping bus provides a door to door service and a bus assistant for clients who need assistance getting shopping on and off the bus and to take shopping into your home.  The service operates in 7 key areas - Millers Point and The Rocks; Pyrmont and Ultimo; Glebe, Camperdown and Chippendale; Alexandria, Erskineville and Newtown; Redfern, Waterloo and Roseberry; Surry Hills and Paddington; Woolloomooloo and Kings Cross.

Access bus

A weekly Access bus provides opportunities to access shops and other local venues in the area (i.e. swimming pools, libraries and other services). These trips will have set routes and timetabled pick up points, and cater to people who are more mobile and don’t require assistance getting on and off the bus.

Low cost individual transport

If you require specialised community transport assistance, South Sydney Community Transport offers low cost individual transport to medical appointments, assisted shopping and social outing bus services.

Mini bus hire

South Sydney Community Transport also has mini buses for hire.

Village to Village Shuttle Bus Service

The Village to Village Shuttle Bus is available for all City residents. NO assistance provided on these buses.
