Access to Information

In 2005, Council resolved to improve public access to Council information by utilising the provisions of Section 12 of the Local Government Act 1993 and thereby reducing the need for applications under the Freedom of Information Act 1989. These changes have led to improved efficiency in the release of information and a greater availability of information on Council’s website.

Statement of Affairs

A Statement of Affairs is published annually, in accordance with S.14 of the Freedom of Information Act, 1989.

The purpose of this document is to provide members of the public access to information and opportunities for involvement in local government.

The City of Sydney Statement of Affairs includes:

  • The structure and functions of the Council
  • The way in which the functions of the Council affect members of the public
  • How the public may participate in policy formulation
  • Types of documents held by Council
  • How members of the public obtain access to Council's documents and amend details on Council records.

Summary of Affairs

A Summary of Affairs is published every six months. It contains a list of policies for the City of Sydney Council.

Copies of most policy documents in the Summary of Affairs are available at no cost. Other policies are listed in Council’s adopted fees and charges.
