Riley and Cathedral Streets Shared Path Connection
Please Note: the exhibition period for this item has now closed.
More and more people are getting on their bikes in Sydney with commuters cycling in the morning peak up by an average 60 per cent in the past year.
The City is making sure that these new riders can get about safely – with cycling courses, a public education campaign and safe cycling paths.
The pathway linking Cathedral and Riley Streets in East Sydney is a well-used cycling connection and is planned to become a shared path for walkers and bike riders.
Shared paths are clearly marked by signs as well as blue markings and symbols on the footpath. Bike riders must always give way to pedestrians on shared paths.
We know bike riding is not for everyone, but we need to make it safer for those who do want the option. More riders on bikes means faster travel for short trips, fewer cars on the road, less overcrowding on public transport, better air quality and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
We would like your feedback on this shared path plan – community views are important to us.
We would appreciate your comments on this proposed plan by close of business on 20 September 2011.
