Awards and Agreements
Staff not designated by Council as "senior staff" under the Local Government Act 1993 are covered by the City of Sydney Wages/Salary Award (PDF 580Kb)and relevant Enterprise Agreements (PDF 3337Kb). Enterprise Agreements vary conditions of employment in some areas of Council.
Executive members are designated "senior staff" and are employed outside the Award system on common law contracts of employment.
Hours of Work
Normally hours of work for salaried staff are 36.25 per week worked within the span 8:00am to 6:00pm, and 38 hours per week for wages staff worked in accordance with operational shift requirements.
Flexible Working Arrangements
The City is committed to offering staff the flexibility to pursue their work/life goals and to meet family, social and other commitments while accommodating the business and operational needs of the City. As part of these arrangements, and by agreement, employees have the option of entering into a 19 day working month.
Pay Day
Salaried staff are paid fortnightly and wages staff are paid weekly. Pays are credited to the staff member's Bank or Credit Union accounts on Wednesdays.
Annual Holidays
Four weeks per annum.
Sick Leave
Paid sick leave is available to staff at a rate of 15 days per annum after the first year of service. This leave is accrued annually.
Long Service Leave
Staff are able to transfer long service leave from other NSW Councils only and attract 13 weeks after 10 years of service.
Superannuation
On commencing with Council all staff automatically become members of the Local Government Superannuation Scheme, unless the staff member chooses another fund in accordance with the choice of fund legislation.
Smoke Free Environment
Council provides a modern smoke free environment.
Training & Development
Fee refunds, study and examination leave may be available if study is undertaken that is appropriate to the staff member's position with Council through the City's Professional Development Program.
Probation
A probationary period of six months applies to all new staff on appointment.
Performance Management
Performance on the job is monitored through the City’s Performance Feed Back System. This is undertaken every 6 months by your supervisor and/or manager.
