Activities on Footways
This involves the preparation of policies for activities on footways, such as outdoor dining and the display of goods, with the aim to maintain the accessibility of footways for all users while enhancing the vibrancy and liveability of streets throughout the LGA.
Adult Entertainment and Sex Industry Premises DCP
This DCP commenced operation on 18 April 2006 and applies to both adult entertainment premises (including premises which provide entertainment and premises which sell restricted material), and sex service premises (including premises providing prostitution).
In addition to planning controls, the DCP includes provisions for the health and management of adult entertainment and sex industry premises and guidelines for the lodgement of development applications and the preparation of Plans of Management.
Built Form
This study seeks to prepare built form controls for the wide array of development in the LGA that is not addressed by heritage controls. This work will set building separation standards, provisions relating to mixed use development and area-specific provisions. This work will occur in close relation to the urban design studies. These controls will be integrated into the LEP and DCP where appropriate. It should be noted that these Built Form controls will not be started from scratch but build on and/or review existing controls.
Child Care Centres DCP
This DCP was recently adopted in October 2005 and sets basic standards for child care centres that are consistent with the requirements of the Department of Community Services, but that also achieve high quality design and functionality for centres.
Developer Contributions Review
The six Contributions Plans which were inherited from Leichhardt Council and South Sydney City Council have been consolidated into a single document: Section 94 Development Contributions Plan 2006. The Ultimo-Pyrmont Contributions Plan is currently under review.
Ecologically Sustainable Development
The City has prepared a Draft Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) – Development Control Plan (DCP) to encourage the application of ESD principles in buildings and thereby conserve and enhance environmental resources for present and future generations. The Draft DCP was placed on public exhibition in February and March 2008.
Exempt and Complying Development
This project relates to determining a single set of consistent provisions for development in the City of Sydney LGA that is considered minor and where consent is either not required, or is required in the form of a Complying Development Certificate.
Draft Green Square and Southern Areas Retail Study
A draft Retail Study for the southern areas of the City of Sydney was completed in February 2008 and placed on public exhibition in June 2008. The City is currently in the process of reviewing submissions made to the Study.
Heritage
This review will focus on all of the existing heritage controls and extensive research already undertaken to generate a comprehensive policy in relation to all forms of heritage in the LGA.

Land Use and Transport (LEP and Policy)
This involves the review of parking rates in the LGA, to determine them in the context of access to public transport and services. This project will result in the parking rates expressed in LEP provisions, and supporting information forming a land use and transport DCP.
Late Night Trading Premises Development Control Plan
This DCP was recently adopted by Council and aims to ensure ongoing good management of late night trading premises. The DCP includes provisions relating to trading hours, trial periods and management of late night trading premises located in a number of “Late Night Areas" in the City.
Residential Amenity
There is a need to re-evaluate residential amenity, and to create improved provisions that seek to achieve high levels of residential amenity to apply to all residential development in the City of Sydney. This work will be undertaken in close relation to the urban design studies. These controls will be integrated into the LEP and DCP where appropriate.
Retail Study in the Sydney Central Business District
A Study of the Retail Sector in the Sydney CBD as part of developing an overarching Economic Development Strategy will be undertaken for the City. The objective of the retail study is to understand the complexity and uniqueness of retail activity in the CBD, recognising that the retail industry is a critical and vital element of the broader CBD, City and State economy.
Visitor and Tourist Accommodation DCP
This DCP was recently adopted in March 2006 and sets basic standards for visitor and tourist accommodation including backpacker accommodation, private hotels, motels, guesthouses, and bed and breakfast accommodation.
