Green Square Green Champions

Green Square Green Champions was a free pilot program that ran in Green Square in 2011. The program fostered community champions by providing participants the tools and information needed to implement sustainability projects in this inner city area.

Twelve community members completed the program, attending workshops between March 2011 and October 2011 on a range of sustainability topics. The program participants were also provided a mentor and personalised leadership coaching sessions.

Two exciting projects have emerged from the program - a gardening group with a difference, Green Square Growers, and an action group, Friends of Victoria Park.

Green Square Growers aims to support Green Square residents who want to grow edible and ornamental plants in currently under-utilised spaces including balconies, parks and nature strips.

Friends of Victoria Park aims to organise community events, activities and forums in the Green Square area to engage the community in sustainability actions.
