Plane Trees

Plane Trees, Druitt Street, Sydney

Plane Trees, Druitt Street, Sydney

The Plane Tree, due to its robust structure and resistance to urban conditions, is particularly suited for planting in the City’s harsh urban environments. Its deciduous nature allows for winter sun and summer shade. Plane trees also have a noted tolerance to pollution and their broad leaves take many airborne particulate pollutants out of City air.

In response to some residents raising concerns about the allergenic properties of Plane Trees, Council has received independent advice from medical and horticultural experts, including allergy specialists. Allergy experts at Royal North Shore and Concord Hospitals have advised that Plane Trees are not generally recognised by either of their allergy clinics as a particular problem.

We will continue to assess the information that comes to us to ensure that our tree planting approach is in line with the best available advice.

If you would like to speak to a Council officer about Plane trees, please contact the City on 02 9265 9333 or at council@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au.
