Inter-Library Loans
If the book you need is not available at City of Sydney Libraries you can request a copy via the Inter-Library-Loans Service. This service enables you to borrow books and other resources from libraries across Australia. Items are borrowed and returned at City of Sydney Libraries.

How Do I Make a Request?
Please check the City of Sydney library catalogue, if the item is not listed:
- Email library@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au or
- Call a branch or
- Fax 02 9242 8561 or
- Visit a branch
- Quote your library card number
- Provide the author and title details
- Which branch? please let us know where you would like to collect the book
- You will be contacted by phone or mail when the item is ready for pick-up

When Will the Book Arrive?
The average delivery time is 3-4 weeks. Delivery times vary depending on whether the item is out on loan or available when the library receives the request.
Urgent Deliveries (optional)
These requests can only be made by phone or in person at a branch of the City of Sydney Libraries.
- Express / same working day ($39.60 + delivery charges).
- Rush / 1 to 2 working days ($26.40 + delivery charges).
- Priority / 3 to 4 working days ($19.80 + delivery charges).
You will be contacted as soon as the item arrives. There is no charge if an item is unavailable (e.g. already out on loan, missing etc).
New Books Cannot be Requested via the Inter-Library-Loans Service:
- Non-fiction books published less than 12 months ago
- Fiction books published less than 24 months ago
This restriction gives each library the opportunity to offer new books to its members first (before lending them to other libraries).
If a new book is not listed on the catalogue and the author is not on the automatic order list please make a Suggestion for Purchase request ($1.00), some conditions apply, please see library staff for more information.
