Blueprint for a Better World: The Millennium Development goals and you
Ground Floor and Level 1
9 July – 9 August 2008
In 2000, world leaders from 189 nations joined together in a global plan to tackle poverty, adopting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The eight MDGs – which range from halving the number of people living in extreme poverty by 2015 to improving infant and maternal health – are a common blueprint for building a better world. Caritas Australia, an international aid and development agency, presents a multi-media exhibition to show the work that it is doing around the world, with a focus on Oceania, to put this blueprint into action.
Developing Stories: Photo Essays from Asia
Level 2
9 July – 9 August 2008
In line with Pope Benedict XVI’s most recent encyclical on the theme of hope, this exhibit is about exploring how hope is concretely expressed. Featuring photographs received by Caritas Australia from people it works with in the region, images include a hand of cupped seeds, symbolizing being able to eat amidst a global food crisis, and even a traffic jam helping to realize that we can always walk.
Complementing blueprint for a Better World: the Millennium Development Goals and You, this is an opportunity to share something of the daily realities for people living in Asia as well as their aspirations.
