Off-Leash Areas
The City of Sydney values pet ownership and actively promotes responsible pet ownership to benefit the community and the welfare of pets.
The City will manage companion animals through a partnership with the community that aims to promote harmonious and equitable access to parks and open spaces.
In high-density inner-city areas, public spaces to walk or run the dog are very important. Off-leash exercise helps to relieve boredom and release the pent-up energy of dogs confined to home. Regular off-leash exercise may also reduce incidents of nuisance behaviour such as uncontrolled barking.
The City will install and maintain clear signage and dog litter bag dispensers at all off-leash parks. City officers will work with the community to promote the principles of responsible dog ownership.
