Futsal is played with a round ball and is a team sport whereby two teams of 5 players verses each other. Each team has 5 players on court at any given time (4 + 1 Goal Keeper). Players can advance and manoeuvre the ball around the court and to team mates with any part of their body excluding their arms and hands, the nominated “Goal Keeper” is the only player that can use their hands when within the marked area around there goal only. The object of the game is to score points by getting the ball into the opposition’s goal area (1 point per score). The team to score the most points within the allocated time period wins the game.
For those of you familiar with “Soccer”, just as Soccer is referred to as “Football” outside Australia, 5 a side soccer is referred to as “Futsal”. Basically Futsal is the same as Soccer with the following modifications:
- Played within smaller area.
- No off side rule.
- Kick inns rather than throw inns.
- No slide tackles, can’t play at the ball if not standing.
