School Garden

The City's Schools Waste Education Program is available to all primary and secondary schools K -12 in the City of Sydney, for both government and independent schools.

The City supports schools in:

  • Assisting school communities to develop a School Environmental Management Plan
  • Advising on waste reduction including recycling, composting and worm farming
  • Recommending environmental service providers
  • Conducting environmental audits on waste generation, biodiversity, water and energy use
  • Linking your school with other regional schools and environmental education centres
  • Providing resources for environmental/sustainability programs

Recent Initiatives

Since 2000, over 80% of schools in the City of Sydney have participated in the Waste Education Program including:

  • Alexandria Park Community School – The Sustainable Inner City Backyard Project
  • Sydney Girls High School – Worm Farming and Biodiversity
  • Crown St Public School – What is Waste and How to Recycle
  • Sydney Distance Education High School – Developing a Whole School Approach to Environmental Management
