What you can do

Glass BottlesThe best thing you can do to help Sydney become a Zero Waste community is to avoid waste in the first place.

If you already recycle, but want to do more, the City of Sydney offers a range of services and resources to help you cut down the amount of waste in your bin:

Home

  • Think twice before you bin it – most things can be used again.
  • Reuse, repair, restore or adapt things rather than throw them out.
  • Avoid excess packaging when you go shopping.
  • Give away or sell second-hand clothes, toys and furniture.

Office

  • Use recycled stationery products and remade toner cartridges.
  • Audit office waste to improve waste and recycling systems.
  • Use email and online publishing to avoid using paper.
  • Keep rubbish out of recycling bins so paper isn’t contaminated.
