Enclosed playgrounds

We have a number of playgrounds across our local area that enclosed. The enclosure ranges in size and access.

  • Mostly enclosed – substantial areas of the playground are enclosed by fencing, walls, boundary walls, impenetrable hedges or a combination of these. However one side of 4 (in a rectangular shape site) is open and fairly easily accessed by an unsupervised child.
  • Partly enclosed – only some of the playground perimeter is enclosed by fencing, walls, hedges etc – the enclosures are typically the sides that are closest to a road or off-leash area.
  • Fully enclosed – the entire play space is enclosed by fencing, and the entrances are usually (but not always) gated.

Partly enclosed playgrounds can be restricted by:

Playground with a tall slide, climbing structure, and swings on a green soft surface, surrounded by trees.
A mural with abstract winged figures is painted on a building wall along a narrow alley, with a yellow-lidded bin and trees under a clear blue sky.
A public park with tall trees, a play area featuring slides and climbing equipment, surrounded by benches and black bollards, adjacent to modern buildings on a sunny day.
