Building the new Huntley Street Recreation Centre, Alexandria

We’re transforming an existing warehouse into a beautifully designed public recreation centre for sports loving locals.

Project Status: Planned

What we’re doing

We’re converting an industrial building at 6-8 Huntley Street in Alexandria into a sporting complex to meet the changing needs of this busy neighbourhood.

The stylish new centre will include:

  • 4 indoor multipurpose courts for basketball, netball, futsal, volleyball, gymnastics and badminton
  • seating for spectators, reception and administration areas, a kiosk and change rooms
  • outdoor flexible courts for practice sessions
  • a fitness space, a landscaped public area and bike parking at the front of the building.

The centre has been designed with environmental sustainability in mind. Solar panels will cover the entire rooftop to generate power for the facility and opportunities for natural lighting and ventilation have been identified. Rainwater will also be collected, stored and reused on the site.

The centre will be accessible so everyone can enjoy the new facility.

Close to densely populated residential and commercial areas, the site is 1.3km walk from Green Square and St Peters train stations, near the Bourke Road cycleway and accessible by bus.
