Oasis is a residential complex in Surry Hills with 154 apartments that participated in our smart green apartments program.

This led the strata committee to analyse energy and water use and to confidently develop a plan to make the building more efficient.

The committee found the building’s water use was extremely high, at times reaching more than 350 litres per bedroom, per day. The owners contracted Sydney Water to conduct an obligation-free assessment through the Strata WaterFix program.

What they did

  1. Repaired leaks – these are a major contributor to water wastage
  2. Fixed the pressure
  3. Adjusted taps
  4. Replaced all the shower heads

Results

  • Reduced water use by 40% from an average 370 litres to 219 litres per bedroom per day
  • Saving $24,000 a year in water bills!

“We would like to extend our appreciation to the Sydney WaterFix team for their assistance in replacing all bathroom shower heads, adjusting the taps, fixing water pressure issues, and repairing leaks where accessible. Their professionalism, the communication of the team and efficiency have significantly improved the water systems and consumption at the building.”

Lessons

Sydney Water recommends apartment buildings review their shower heads every 7 years due to degradation, which results in wasted water use.

Your apartment building could save water and money too. Get an obligation free assessment or find out more on the Sydney Water website.
