Saturday 24 May

Drop off your furniture at our Recycle It Saturday event from 9am to 3pm at Alexandra Canal Depot, 67C Bourke Road, Alexandria.

With a little extra effort, you can make a big impact – helping local families and keeping reusable furniture out of landfill.

We’re trialling a drop-off to help rehome your pre-loved, good-quality furniture through local charities.

This free trial is open to City of Sydney, Waverley Council and Woollahra Council residents only. We’ll ask for your address on the day.

We can’t accept items from businesses.

Check your items are accepted

Check your furniture meets quality standards

Only drop off items in great condition. For example, is it something you would happily resell or give to a friend or family member to use in their home?

Minor damage such as scuffing or scratches may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

To check if your item will be accepted beforehand, email photos and details to [email protected]. We’ll get back to you within 3 business days. You can also call us on 02 9265 9333.

We reserve the right to refuse items that don’t meet quality standards on the day. You’ll need to take home items that aren’t accepted.

What to expect on the day

You can drop off accepted furniture at our Recycle It Saturday event on 24 May, 9am to 3pm at Alexandra Canal Depot. If you’re bringing other items to Recycle It Saturday, pack your furniture in last so it can be easily removed first.

This is a drive-through and drop-off event. For safety, stay within your vehicle. We’ll quality check your items when you arrive. If your items are accepted, we’ll unpack them from your vehicle.

If you have other items to drop off at Recycle It Saturday, you’ll be directed to a separate line.

If your item isn’t accepted on the day

Consider rehoming your items through websites such as Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, Rosella Street, Trading Post, eBay or Freecycle. If you just want it gone as soon as possible, offer it free. You’ll be surprised what people will take.

If rehoming isn’t possible, you may be able to dispose of your item by booking a free pick-up for bulky items.

You can also search our recycling help tool for tips on what to do with your item.

Where it all goes

Furniture dropped off will be rehomed to families in need by local charity The Bower or resold in The Bower or Salvos Stores, with proceeds supporting their vital services.
