Bourke Street, Waterloo: shared path works
A new 7km north-south corridor from Mascot to Woolloomooloo will improve safety for people walking and riding.
Project Status: Completed
A shared path now connects the Bourke Street and Bourke Road cycleways.
Bourke Street, Waterloo is already part of a popular travelling route from south of the city to Darlinghurst, the city centre and Woolloomooloo, being used by around 400 people who ride each day.
We improved a 1.5km section of the path between Phillip Street, Redfern and Botany Road, Green Square. The upgrade included:
- wider paved footpaths
- improved street lighting
- new garden beds
- new bus shelters
- additional seating
- extra bike racks
- new shared path signs.
To improve pedestrian and bike rider safety, a shared path now connects the Bourke Street and Bourke Road cycleways providing a 7km north–south corridor from Mascot to Woolloomooloo.
Work was completed in 2018.
