Mitchell Road tram shelter refurbishment works
We’re restoring the shelter to its original appearance.
Project Status: Completed
Works started in August 2021 and were completed in March 2022.
What we’re doing
We’re preserving the city’s history for future generations.
The tram shelter on Mitchell Road in Alexandria is a rare surviving structure within the Erskineville estate heritage conservation area. The shelter is at the southern end of Mitchell Road and Erskineville Oval, near the roundabout at the intersection of Ashmore and Harley streets.
It was used by passengers who travelled in the trams that ran along Mitchell Road from 1928 to 1957.
A specialist heritage carpenter will restore the shelter to its original appearance.
