Artwork description

Suspended from the ceiling of Customs House, the rescued materials have been reimagined as 2,255 objects that resemble oranges.

Made from 120kg of marine debris collected from the Great Barrier Reef, Wasteland voices 2 of the world’s most urgent problems: plastic pollution and food waste. It questions the impact of our lifestyle on the natural environment.

Through an optimistic shade of orange, Wasteland hints at hope. It reminds us of 3 vital principles: reduce, reuse, recycle. And as the all-embracing spectacle of the 2,255 objects suggests, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. We need to tackle these problems together.
