Artwork description

The #WeLiveHere2017 team collaborated with the tenants of Matavai and Turanga towers in Waterloo to create a light project.

Each resident has been offered a set of coloured lights for their window. The project transforms the towers into a beacon to the community, powered by the people themselves.

Together the residents hope to show the strength of the Waterloo community in lights. From 9 September until 1 October 2017 the towers will be illuminated from inside people’s homes. This project celebrates the people of Waterloo and shows the world “we live here” before their neighbourhood changes. The project aims to generate important discussions about the people affected by urban renewal projects: the lights are on, somebody’s home.
