A simple polished red granite column topped with a square capital stone holds a brass sundial in memory of citizens of Rosebery lost in World War 2.
Artwork description
The sundial World War 2 memorial stands in a small paved crescent, surrounded by a low red brick wall and eight 8 red brick dwarf columns, capped with white stone. It is set in a small garden within the El Alamein Reserve, facing the footpath along Dalmeny Avenue, Rosebery.
The memorial consists of a simple, polished red granite column on a sandstone slab plinth. The column stands on a square base and is topped with a square capital stone, with a brass sundial set into the centre.
There are 2 red granite flower troughs on the sandstone plinth in front of the column, set on the diagonal to the column’s corners.
Inscriptions
The sundial is ringed by a white etched inscription that reads:
The inscription etched in white letters on the polished red granite column lists the names of 16 local servicemen lost during the war, and reads:
Greater love hath no man than he who lays down his life for his country
