Woolloomooloo Playground upgrade

Project Status: Completed

Why we’re doing this

The design was approved by Council in October 2020. Members of the community then requested the City of Sydney to review parts of the design.  We invited the community to give feedback on an updated design in mid-2023.  We used this feedback to refine the design, which Council approved in June 2023.

What we’re doing

The upgrade includes:

  • a fully fenced playground the same size as the existing one
  • a play structure with climbing net and slides
  • a basket swing and a swing with a baby seat, multi-user seesaw, springer, monkey bars, climbing net carousel, a hamster wheel and rock-climbing structure
  • nature play including stepping stones and logs, cluster poles, sandstone boulders and a scrambling net
  • new plants and trees in the playground
  • retain the grass area
  • better connections between the playground and barbecue area
  • more seating in both sunny and shaded locations
  • a new water bubbler and dog bowl
  • improved lighting and paths
  • resurfaced tennis and basketball courts.
Design plan for Woolloomooloo Playground bordered by Dowling Street, Pring Street, McElhone Street and Sydney Place. The plan includes areas for green spaces, pathways and the new playground. It includes a new fence, new trees and planting in the playground, natural turf area, more seats and resurfacing of hard courts and new maintenance access.
