Have your say on revised plans for parking on streets in Green Square
In response to community feedback, we’re reviewing parking on some streets and lanes.
Project Status: Closed
You can view the engagement report with key outcomes from the consultation and proposed changes to parking. We received 195 pieces of feedback from 29 people on our interactive map, 32 email submissions and 2 petitions.
The changes were approved at the Local Pedestrian, Cycling and Traffic Calming Committee in August 2021.
Why we’re doing this
This proposal aims to balance the need for on-street parking with that of a rapidly growing new town centre that’s safe for people walking and riding. This includes completing the separated cycleway around the bend on Portman Street and up to the new pedestrian crossing at Frog Park Lane for safety reasons.
We’ve already made the following changes to create extra parking:
- Moving the pedestrian crossing in line with Frog Park Lane to add 4 more parking spaces north of the crossing
- Redesigning the garden bed between Sonny Leonard and Hansard streets to add 2 more parking spaces.
Proposed design changes
We’re now proposing further changes that include angled parking on:
- Portman Street between Navins Lane and Merton Street (west side of street)
- Portman Street between Merton Street and Frog Park Lane (east side of street)
- Merton Street between Elizabeth and Portman streets (north side of street)
- Hansard Street between Joynton and Dunning avenues (north side of street).
