Your feedback on proposed improvements to William Street, Beaconsfield
Project Status: Closed
Council approved the proposal at the Local Pedestrian, Cycling and Traffic Calming Committee on 16 November.
What we’re doing
We’re planning to plant 23 trees on William Street in 2023/24. This includes 7 cheese trees (Glochidion ferdinandi) in the roadway on William Street, between Beaconsfield and Collins streets. This will allow the trees to grow in enough soil, and away from overhead cables and narrow footpaths.
To provide space for these 7 trees, we propose to install a series of median strips of varying lengths, which will also help calm traffic.
We propose 16 trees on William Street between Collins and Reserve streets. This will also allow us to provide 8 more parking spaces, as we propose to convert the existing parking to a mix of angled and parallel parking.
Future improvement works for people walking
In 2025/26, we’re proposing to upgrade the Collins Street intersection to include:
- a new raised pedestrian crossing east of William Street, across Collins Street
- 2 new continuous footpath treatments crossing William Street south and north of the intersection with Collins Street.
Next steps
We’ll report all feedback and design changes to Council, and will continue to a detailed design. We’ll keep you updated on the progress of this project.
