We’re investigating the commemorative naming of the grandstand at Erskineville Oval after local boxing trainer Johnny Lewis.
Following a request from a community member, in July 2024 Council requested City of Sydney staff to investigate the proposal to rename the grandstand and report back for consideration.
Community consultation and Council approval is required for all commemorative naming of City of Sydney managed buildings. This is to ensure the person’s community contribution is positively documented and received, but strong community support alone does not guarantee this commemorative naming will go ahead.
For more information on commemorative naming, please see our naming policy.
We’re inviting your feedback on this request, as part of our investigation.
We’ve prepared a history summary of Erskineville Oval and grandstand and a biography of Johnny Lewis to provide further background.
After this community consultation we’ll report back to Council for further consideration of the proposal.
Consultation closes at 5pm on Monday 31 March 2025.
You’ll need to log in with a City of Sydney account to complete the survey. If you don’t have an account, it’s easy to create one.
