About 5 days – when you’ve completed the online application including payment, we’ll immediately email your interim parking permit to use until you receive the official permit, usually within 5 working days.

Fees vary and concessions apply for vehicles in the green vehicle guide.

Project Status: When you need to do this

Your business may be eligible for a business parking permit if it requires a vehicle for carrying goods or equipment, does not have any onsite car spaces and cannot reasonably modify the premises to provide onsite parking.

Business permits are not provided for vehicles primarily used for employee travel, attending business appointments, or commuting to a place of employment or business.

What you need to do

Check your eligibility

You must have an eligible vehicle. The vehicle must:
- be registered in the name of a business, or a principal of the business
- be registered for business use
- be used for the purposes of carrying goods and equipment
- not be a truck or bus exceeding 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass
You must also be at an eligible address. When you apply for a permit, the application form will begin by checking if your address is eligible. If you're not eligible for a parking permit, the form will let you know.

Current vehicle registration papers showing:

business name
business address
vehicle details.

Business registration certificate.
One of the following:

current commercial lease
business utility bill (for example, electricity, gas, phone).

Description of the goods or equipment the vehicle carries.

Number of permits available

- If your business has no on-site parking, you may be eligible to apply for one business permit for street parking.
- If your business has on-site parking you are not eligible for a permit.
- All eligible business properties will be limited to one business parking permit at a single address corresponding to a strata lot.
- If the strata-titled building has on-site parking space, then a business parking permit will not be issued to any lot or address within the building.
Not all properties are eligible to participate in the parking scheme. The main restrictions apply to multi-unit developments:
- approved after 8 May 1996 in the former South Sydney Council area
- approved after 1 May 2000 in the former Sydney City Council area.

After you finish

Once your form and payment are received, your application will be processed and any permit(s) for which you are eligible will be posted to you within 5 working days.

Making changes or applying for a temporary parking permit

Depending on your circumstances, changes can be made to your permit or temporary permit.

If your vehicle is damaged or stolen, and you are using a replacement vehicle, we will issue an interim permit for up to 3 months. Contact us for more information.

If you get a new car and you have a current permit, we’ll cancel your original permit and issue you with a new permit. This also applies if you want to transfer your permit to a different vehicle.

You’ll need to bring in your existing permit by removing it from your vehicle windscreen (it doesn’t matter if your permit is torn). If you don’t have the old permit you must complete a signed statutory declaration explaining why you no longer have the permit.

You’ll need to apply for the new vehicle permit by providing the new registration papers, or the contract of sale for a new vehicle. If the contract of sale is older than 4 weeks, your new registration papers will be required.

Parking permits can't be swapped between vehicles because the permit displays your car registration. Your permit must be permanently affixed to the lower passenger side of the windscreen of the vehicle for which it has been issued. If you bring home different vehicles from your workplace each night, or if you have borrowed a vehicle that’s registered in someone else’s name, you are not eligible for a permit.
