Have your say on our operational plan and budget for 2024/25
Project Status: Closed
Council approved our operational plan 2024/25 and resourcing strategy 2024 at its meeting on Monday 24 June 2024.
Why we’re doing this
Council adopted our community strategic plan – delivering Sustainable Sydney 2030–2050 on 27 June 2022.
The plan guides the future development and planning for the City of Sydney local area. The 4-year delivery program identifies our goals and the steps required to reach our long-term vision and objectives.
We’ve developed a suite of annual documents to support the key directions, targets and major objectives within the delivery program.
What we’re doing
All councils in NSW continue to face underlying financial pressures on their financial sustainability.
Local government rates are councils’ largest source of income. Under the NSW rate peg system annual increases are approved by the Minister for Local Government on the recommendation of the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal.
A general rate increase of 5.1% has been approved for 2024/25. While this is in line with recent consumer price index increases it does not reflect the City of Sydney’s cost experiences of rising labour, materials, contracts, service and construction costs.
Our draft operational plan 2024/25 outlines our projects and programs for the next 12 months, including the annual budget, proposed revenue policy for rates and fees and charges.
The draft resourcing strategy 2024 identifies how we will use our resources – financial, workforce, asset management and technology – and engage our community to achieve our community strategic plan.
