Multicultural Advisory Panel
Provides advice about policies and operations for culturally diverse communities.
The City of Sydney’s area is one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse areas in NSW and Australia. Almost 50% of our residents were born overseas, and 34.8% of people speak a language other than English at home. Most commonly spoken languages include Mandarin, Cantonese, Thai, Spanish and Indonesian.
About the panel
Our Multicultural Advisory Panel provides advice about the needs and desires of the diverse cultural groups and populations living in our area.
The panel features a cross-section of members. It includes representatives from the local community, NSW Government organisations, multicultural organisations and universities in our area.
Panel members provide input on policy development, planning and advice across areas likely to impact multicultural communities, including businesses.
It also advises about appropriate methods of communication to diverse cultural groups and populations and advocates on strategies to combat racism and discrimination, and promoting greater understanding and appreciation of multiculturalism.
The panel was established in June 2022.
