Create the visual identity for Refugee Week

We’re seeking an artwork by an individual or group of artists with lived experience as a refugee or seeking asylum.

About this opportunity

As the visual identity for Refugee Week, the artwork will promote the City of Sydney’s commitment as a Refugee Welcome Zone and other opportunities relating to social cohesion and diverse communities.

The artwork should:

  • promote a welcoming culture, belonging and community for refugees and people seeking asylum
  • celebrate the contribution refugees and people seeking asylum make to our communities
  • increase awareness about refugees and people seeking asylum, and the challenges they face.

The artwork will be licensed for sole use in multiple print and digital formats for up to 5 years. These include street banners, digital signs, billboards, and online and print materials.

The artwork should be flexible enough to be used in portrait and landscape formats, and be cropped to different dimensions.

You may choose to provide an artwork that has been created specifically in response to this brief or provide an existing artwork from your portfolio.

Evaluation criteria

Concepts will be assessed by a City of Sydney appointed panel, which includes a refugee representative.

  • Entry by an artist, designer or collective with lived experience as a refugee or seeking asylum and arrived in Australia after the year 2000
  • Entry by an artist who can demonstrate a connection to the City of Sydney’s local area, including living, working, studying or visiting the area.
  • Creative approach
  • Calibre and experience of the artist, team or collective
  • Suitability of the artwork for a variety of uses
  • Audience connection and experience
  • Insurances
