Our award-winning international student leadership and ambassador program offers free training, integrated learning and volunteering opportunities.

About this opportunity

Develop leadership skills and experiences that can help your future career. Meet new friends, expand your networks and get involved in local events and activities. You can volunteer at major events such as Vivid and Sydney New Year’s Eve, community services and Sydney City Farm and many more.

We’ll mentor and support you to create projects and events that help address the needs of international students.

You can apply for a 3 or 12 month program.

- Introduction: Program briefing and support services – Saturday 17 May
- Volunteering training – Saturday 24 May
- Orientation and tours to our community centres, Sydney City Farm and local community services
- Volunteering – 30 hours
- Reflection and evaluation – Saturday 12 July
- Graduation ceremony – Saturday 30 August
All sessions must be attended and will be held in the city centre. You’ll receive a bronze certificate when you complete the program.

- Public speaking training – Saturday 28 June

- Event/project management workshop – Saturday 27 September
- Cultural intelligence training – date to be confirmed
- Project planning and reflection workshops – Saturdays 12 July, 30 August, 4 October, 25 October, 15 November and 20 December 2025; and Saturdays 31 January, 14 February, 7 March and 28 March 2026.
- Graduation ceremony at the Lord Mayor’s international student welcome events March or April 2026.
All sessions must be attended and will be held in the city centre. You’ll receive a gold certificate when you complete the program.

Applications to our next 3 and 6 month programs open Tuesday 1 July.

- Be a current international student aged 18 years or over at a tertiary education institution in Greater Sydney. This includes universities, vocational education and training (VET) institutes or other education providers.
- Live, study, work or visit the City of Sydney’s local area.
- Commit to attending all training, meetings and volunteering hours for the 3 or 12 month program selected.

Application information sessions

There’ll be 2 sessions to give you an overview of the program and application tips. You’ll meet some of our ambassadors and have an opportunity to ask questions.
