Why we’re doing this

The display of goods on the footway – local approvals policy was adopted in 2022 and is due for review.

Local approvals policies must be reviewed after each Council election.

What we’re doing

The display of goods on the footway policy aims to:

  • promote the use of the footway by permitting the display of goods
  • maintain pedestrian access as the primary purpose of the footway
  • maintain a consistent and predictable clear path of travel for all users
  • manage neighbourhood amenity by monitoring compliance with the criteria to display goods on the footway.

New areas have been included in the draft policy due to proposed amendments to the Sydney Local Environmental Plan 2012. These include:

  • Harold Park
  • Glebe affordable housing project
  • former Carlton United Brewery site on Broadway (Central Park)
  • certain sites in Redfern–Waterloo
  • sites fronting Gardeners Road, Rosebery.
