Why we’re doing this

A new policy and code are being developed to cover more construction-related temporary structures on and above roads. They include an update to the current provisions for hoardings and scaffolding.

What we’re doing

The policy and code for construction-related temporary structures on and above roads is proposed to replace the current hoardings and scaffolding policy and supporting guidelines for hoardings and scaffolding.

In the proposed policy, we aim to:

  • control, regulate and approve temporary structures erected on and/or above roads
  • minimise barriers for people walking, cycling and driving as well as other impacts
  • maintain visual attractiveness in public spaces near worksites by introducing high-quality graphics on some temporary structures
  • screen and secure worksites to enhance public safety.

A detailed summary of key proposed changes from the current policy and guidelines has been included with the new draft policy and code of practice.
