Your say on our draft councillors’ expenses and facilities policy
Project Status: Under review
Contributions to this consultation are closed for evaluation and review. The project team will report back on key outcomes.
What we’re doing
The draft policy proposes an increase to the scope of some expenditure categories to better meet the needs of councillors and a raise in the yearly caps related to a number of categories. It doesn’t propose any new expense categories or facilities.
Proposed changes and corrections are marked up in the draft policy.
Why we’re doing this
Under the Local Government Act 1993, councillors are entitled to be provided with the necessary resources and facilities, and expenses reimbursed for them to perform their role and carry out their duties.
Council is required to adopt a policy, known as the councillors’ expenses and facilities policy, for the payment of expenses and facilities provided to the Lord Mayor and councillors.
In line with the Local Government Act 1993, this policy must be reviewed within 12 months of an election.
