What we’re doing

We’re proposing a 10-year cultural strategy to shape a thriving cultural life in Sydney.

This strategy outlines how we plan to support Sydney’s creative industries through both current challenges and future ambitions.

Our approach focuses on 3 key areas: retaining our cultural assets, rebuilding strength in the creative sector and reimagining a diverse, inclusive, green and equitable future for our creative industries, artists and cultural tourism.

The strategy focuses on 4 areas, our cultural pillars, each with future aspirations and actions to achieve them.

Why we’re doing this

Our draft cultural strategy 2025–2035 addresses the evolving needs of Sydney’s creative sector and builds on our Creative City cultural policy and action plan 2014–2024. Read more about our 10 years of investment in culture and creativity under our first cultural policy.

The strategy is informed by new research and targeted consultation. It tackles challenges resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, economic pressures and the housing crisis. The strategy supports our long-term plan Sustainable Sydney 2030–2050 Continuing the Vision and aims to protect cultural spaces, support creative workers and foster a vibrant cultural life.
