Your say on our proposed cultural strategy 2025–2035

Vision: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultural practices are visible and respected. We value our cultural life and champion our creative industries.

Actions include:

• Developing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander strategic framework, prioritising First Nations artists in grants and supporting truth-telling initiatives.
• Reviewing creative precinct planning controls, developing place strategies and place-keeping plans, and creating a network to monitor creative spaces across greater Sydney.

Vision: More creative workers live or work in the city. Sydney’s cultural life reflects the diversity of our communities.

Actions include:

• Providing fellowship-style grants, extending creative live/work tenancies and promoting affordable housing solutions for artists.
• Exploring a funding program to recruit diverse staff, offering traineeships for producers and event managers, and reviewing grant application processes to maximise accessibility and inclusion.

Vision: More accessible creative spaces. Creativity and culture are embedded in the city’s fabric.

Actions include:

• Offering grants for improving creative spaces, supporting new creative infrastructure projects, and exploring a creative land trust.
• Continuing to apply and promote Gadigal place names, testing new ideas with temporary public art programs and piloting creative use of underused commercial property.

Vision: Creativity and great experiences fuel the city’s vitality. Everyone has equitable access to education and creative opportunities.

Actions include:

• Developing a fair and straightforward model for managing entertainment sound, simplifying approvals processes for events and venues, and increasing performance infrastructure in community spaces.
• Increasing maker spaces, supporting research residencies and developing community curator programs.
