We’re proposing to change our swimming pool barrier inspection program to keep children safe from drowning.
Our proposal will increase inspections to ensure all registered pools in our area are inspected by the end of 2025.
We would then inspect pools every 3 years and issue compliant properties with a compliance certificate. This can be used if you’re selling or renting your house to avoid fines for non-compliance.
Since 2012 we’ve inspected barriers of registered swimming pools in our area to meet NSW Government legislation and help ensure children are kept safe from drowning. Our inspections have found many pool fences were non-compliant, posing a significant risk of drowning.
Our random inspections only capture about 5% of houses with registered pools each year. Increasing our inspections will help us reach our goal by the end of 2025 to ensure pool barriers are safer across the City of Sydney local area.
Consultation closes at 5pm on Monday 24 June 2024.
