Your say on our revised code of meeting practice
Project Status: Closed
Council adopted the revised code of meeting practice at its meeting on 15 August 2022.
Why are we doing this?
Councils must adopt a code of meeting practice that incorporates the mandatory provisions of the model code of meeting practice for local councils in NSW within 12 months of an election.
On 19 November 2021, a revised model code of meeting practice was prescribed under the Local Government (General) Regulation 2021.
We revised our code of meeting practice to comply with the mandatory provisions of the model code.
What is a code of meeting practice?
The code of meeting practice ensures all Council meetings are:
- consistent, orderly and efficient
- fair and respectful for all councillors and other meeting participants
- conducted with transparency and clearly defined rights and obligations for councillors.
What has changed?
In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, temporary provisions were adopted by Council in May 2021 and extended in November 2021 relating to meetings held by audio-visual link.
The revised code of meeting practice formally incorporates these provisions to allow meetings to be held by audio-visual link or allow councillors to attend meetings by audio-visual link. These new provisions generally reflect the current temporary provisions adopted by Council in 2021.
Other changes are largely administrative to comply with the mandatory provisions of the model code.
