What we’re doing

Our environmental strategy 2025-2030 sets targets for our own operations and the local area to reduce our carbon footprint, improve water health and increase sustainable use of resources.

In November 2024, we asked about the environmental priorities that matter most to you and how we can make Sydney more sustainable and resilient. We heard the strategy’s priority areas are important ways to protect Sydney’s environment and liveability. You told us taking local action on these matters is vital.

Our revised plan will

  • help our communities rely less on fossil fuels and transition away from gas.
  • strengthen support for renters to adapt to climate impacts.
  • reduce our operational energy use and emissions
  • explore ways to regenerate our environment.

We now invite your feedback on the final draft of the strategy.

Strategy summary

Targets give us a measurable goal to work towards and report progress against. We document our progress each year in the green report.

Our key priorities are set out under 4 strategic directions.

Why we’re doing this

The environmental strategy  builds on direction 2: leading environmental performer in our overarching strategy Sustainable Sydney 2030-2050: Continuing the Vision.

This is one of several strategies under this direction. We’re currently developing a new waste reduction and circular materials strategy and will invite community feedback in mid-2025.
